<P ALIGN=LEFT>The coot (<i>Fulica americana</i>, Foulque d'Amérique, Amerikanisches Blässhuhn) is a common bird in the fresh waters of North America. This individual was photographed in winter, at the Neary Lagoon.

<P ALIGN=LEFT>The Ursa Platform is one of the largest tension leg platforms in the world. It exploits oil reserve located more than 4000 meters deep in the Gulf of Mexico sediments.</P>
  • <H2><b>Rare encounter</b></H2>
<P ALIGN=LEFT>Appearing suddenly on the horizon is the silhouette of the USS Oriskany, a Vietnam-days aircraft carrier. The 888-foot, rusted ship is seen here  towed to Beaumont, Texas, to ride out the hurricane season at the Maritime Administration Reserve Fleet Facility. The relocation is the latest in a long string of delays in making the Oriskany the first Naval vessel and largest ship to be sunk intentionally as an artificial reef.</P>
